1. Data We Collect

motif is a nutrition and longevity app. With your permission, we collect and store:

• Food and nutrition data you log: meals, dishes, ingredients, photos of food, portions, and any nutrient information attached to them.
• How you feel: the energy, mood, digestion, and symptom check-ins you record, including entries from food sensitivity tests and personal experiments.
• Wearable health data you authorize from connected services (Garmin, Oura, WHOOP, Apple Health): heart rate, HRV, sleep, stress, body battery, recovery, activity and workout data, and daily summaries.
• Account information: email, display name, and the profile details you choose to provide (such as birth year, goals, and food preferences).

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data only to provide and improve the service for you:

• Surface patterns between what you eat and how your body responds.
• Run the personal (n-of-1) experiments and food sensitivity tests you start.
• Generate insights, coaching responses, and recommendations.
• Show you the longevity and nutrition signals on your dashboard.

We do not use your individual health data to train advertising models, and we do not sell it.

3. Data Sharing

To power AI features (the coach, insights, and hypothesis generation), the relevant data is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude API), to generate a response. Wearable data is exchanged with the device providers you connect, solely to sync your data. We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on our servers for as long as your account exists. Access tokens for connected services are stored to keep your data in sync and are never shown to other users.

5. Your Choices: Access, Export, and Deletion

You can disconnect any device at any time. You may request a copy of your data, and you may delete your account and all associated data from within the app. Deletion is permanent.

6. Not Medical Advice

motif helps you notice patterns in your own data. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice. If you are struggling with food, eating, or your relationship with your body, support is available from the National Alliance for Eating Disorders helpline at 1-866-662-1235.

7. Your Consent

By connecting your devices and using motif, you consent to the collection, storage, and processing of your data as described in this policy.
